Meet the Artisan: His & Hers Home Co.

For many artisans, perfecting a craft is a fun, creative process. For Shondra McLean, however, learning to make soap was a life or death situation.

When her infant son suffered from kidney failure at birth, Shondra had to find an alternative to commercial bath and body care products. With just one kidney left, she feared that regular products would cause him to develop bladder infections which would lead to kidney infections.

“Creating his bathing and body products myself allowed me to control the additives and ingredients ensuring that they were made of only the best and were all natural,” she says.

An entire decade and three healthy children later, the demand for Shondra’s products has spiraled into a successful little business: His and Hers Home Co. In addition to her signature all natural soaps, she also produces bath and body products, fragrant soaps and 100% soy candles and wax melts.

Having been raised in the Ottawa Valley where hunting season is taken very seriously, Shondra was inspired to create a line of all natural men’s products that are perfect for the hunters, campers and fishermen in your life. “Women are always pleased to see a vendor that carries gifts for their hard-to-buy-for husbands!”

Shondra will be bringing her unique line of products to the Museum’s Outdoor Artisan Market this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
