March 29th, 2020

We may not be able to host Family Craft Days at the Museum right now but we can bring the crafts to you!

Our very first “virtual” Family Craft Day is Too Slow Gotta Go which takes its cue from Sonic the Hedgehog. We have designed three crafts for you to make from home: SONIC SHOES, SPIN ATTACK, and POWER RING FLING.

This is the SUPPLY LIST (including substitutes you can scrounge from around the house).

Click on each of the links, below, to watch our fearless leader Tracey Donaldson (and crafter extraordinaire!) walk you through each craft!

We hope you and your kids enjoy this “virtual” craft day. We’re learning as we go so your feedback is welcome. We’d love to see pictures of your kids making the crafts as well as your finished products so feel free to post them on social media and tag us, or email them to: info@goulbournmuseum.ca (let us know if it’s okay for us to share them on social media).

Have fun, stay safe and hope to see you soon!

The Museum may be closed but staff has been busy developing online programming to help families connect, keep busy and have fun while you spend time at home. You can’t come to the Museum, but the Museum can come to you!

Follow along with us on social media where each day we will share an activity for you to do at home. Keep your eyes open this week for a contest and prize announcement!

Day 1 Activity: Call someone who you consider to be family, and ask them to tell you about your shared history. Some questions to ask may include:

  • How many generations have you/we been in Canada?
  • Where did you/we come from?
  • What was life like for your parents/grandparents/ancestors?
  • What stories do you know from your parents/grandparents/ancestors about our history?

Watch the Day 1 Video HERE.

Day 2 Activity: Now that you have learned more about your own family, create a family tree and see how far back you can go! Ask other members of your family to join in and help! Download a Family Tree template. Watch the Day 2 Video HERE.

Day 3 Activity: Find objects in your home that have cool family stories! Watch the Day 3 Video HERE.

Day 4 Activity: Official Contest Launch!! Get creative & design an exhibit about your family history, using what you’ve learned this week!  The winner will receive one of our very popular POCKET WATCHES and have their exhibit featured at the Museum. **CONTEST CLOSES FRIDAY, MAR 27** Click HERE for all the details!
